There are two models of electric AGA cooker available from AGA Twyford; the 13amp electric AGA and the 30amp night-storage electric AGA.
With electric AGAs, there is no need for a flue however, just like all heat storage AGAs, the cast iron ovens are vented to the outside which on electric models is achieved through a 28mm (1") diameter copper pipe which can travel up to 6 metres to a small fan box mounted on an external wall or into an existing conventional flue.
The 13amp Electric AGA Cooker
The 13amp Electric AGA uses a 13amp or 2.5KW electricity supply, similar to that of an electric kettle. Its internals and workings are very similar to an oil or gas AGA Cooker but instead of using a burner, an electric element tops the heat up in the cast iron as and when required throughout the day. Conduction and convection then gently spreads the warmth to the hot plates and ovens using air which is re-circulated. There are no products of combustion to exhaust so there is no need for a flue.

The renovated AGA Twyford 13amp electric AGA Cooker comes with the AGA Manual Control System which is very simple to use and provides you with total manual control of the cooker at all times. As there's no burner to clean, maintenance is minimal and low cost - just a safety check every 5 years or so.
The 30amp Electric AGA Cooker
The 30amp Electric AGA Cooker has a bank of heat storage bricks that 'charge up' predominately during the cheap-rate Economy 7 period. This heat is then transferred across to the hot plates and ovens when needed during the day. The normal cooker connection is a standard 32amp cooker circuit.

Highly efficient insulation retains the heat inside the cooker so it isn't too hot to touch (surface temperatures are much the same as all other AGA Cookers) and there's easily enough heat to last for a full day's cooking. If the heat store does get low and it's still peak rate time the cooker will detect this and boost itself (only to a lower level though) until the cheap rate starts and it can fully charge up again.
A 30amp AGA requires a service every 2 years.
13amp Conversions
AGA Rangemaster Ltd in conjunction with AGA Twyford have developed a 13amp electric conversion kit which can be retro-fitted to purpose-built Oil and Gas fired AGAs. The conversion is carried out on-site and can be completed within a day. Converting a Gas or Oil AGA to electric is a great way to gain controllability with your AGA as well as saving on running and servicing costs.
