AGA Dual Control

The AGA Dual Control cooker is very similar to the traditional heat-storage AGA cooker, but with added flexibility. This model is available in all electric or dual fuel featuring gas (Mains Gas or LPG ) ovens & electric powered hotplates. Using the AGA’s control panel, each hotplate can be operated individually or both together. The roasting, baking & simmering ovens are all controlled together, such that all ovens are on, off or on AGA’s new low-energy setting (electric models)

You can still run the AGA to supply radiant heat to your kitchen & home and enjoy the ambient AGA warmth in the winter months whilst only using it when you need to in the summer months, offering you the best of both worlds.

The flexibility of the AGA Dual Control means that you can achieve significantly lower running costs, as little as 50% of the cost of running a 13amp heat-storage AGA cooker. The ovens on the Dual Control AGA take around 8 hours to heat up from cold. From the low-energy setting, the heat up time is usually 2-4 hours.

As well as the flexibility in control, the AGA Dual Control also offers flexibility with the installation position. With the choice of either external or in-room venting for the all electric model, and a power flue installation for the dual fuel gas model, the AGA Dual Control can be installed virtually anywhere in the kitchen! (Note: additional ovens for the 5-oven model always vent into the room).

The Dual Control is available with either 3 or 5 ovens. Both offer roasting, baking & simmering ovens, boiling & simmering plates. The 5 oven Dual Control offers an additional slow cooking oven, warming oven and a warming plate on the hob. The additional features from the 5 oven Total Control are controlled as one and are operated manually.

Installation Requirements

The Dual Control is available as an all electric or dual fuel gas (Mains Gas or LPG ). A 32amp supply is required for installation and an additional 13 Amp 3-pin plug is required for the 5 oven model. A gas supply and power flue system is also required for the dual fuel gas model.

Energy Consumption

A large proportion of the energy is used via the hotplates on a Traditional AGA cooker, so by being able to turn them off, as with the Dual Control, there is a significant saving to be made. The addition of the option to reduce the oven temperatures provides yet further potential energy savings.

Rigorous testing of the AGA Dual Control has been undertaken to assess the energy consumption under different conditions of use. AGA have commissioned an independent body - GASTEC at CRE to test the AGA Dual Control. Below is a table, which represents one week of typical usage. The data in these tables is however approximate and will depend on ambient conditions, mains voltage supply and variability in manufacturing assembly.

Low Energy Setting

The energy saving is achieved through dropping the roasting oven to below 200°C. The temperature of the other ovens will also reduce.

The energy consumed over one week for this test was 128kW. When compared against a 13amp 3-oven AGA which uses 240kW, this represents a comparative reduction of around 46%. Clearly there are even greater savings to be made if only the top plates are used (during warmer periods of the year for example) with the ovens turned off.
