Not all burners and controls are identical so please feel free to call us on 01432-355924 before proceeding

OIL Turning Off

Gas-Lighting The Burner

1: Turn on the gas cock.

2: Turn the thermostat knob to start position (indicated *).

3: Push in the knob, and occasionally press the piezo button until the burner is alight.

4: When the pilot flame is established, hold down the piezo button for a further 10 to 15 seconds.

5: Release the knob, and confirm that the flame is established.

6: Keep the thermostat setting on position 5 to achieve an oven temperature. The maximum setting is 7 on the knob. Allow the cooker to heat up until the mercury is approximately on the centre line of the heat indicator scale. This time will be approximately 8 hours.

7: The temperature can be adjusted by moving the control knob to a higher temperature, and a lower number for lower tempetature.

Note: When the boiling and simmering plates are going to be in use for some time, and the oven door is not being opened, the gas control should be turned up to 7.  The extra heat generated will go to the boiling and simmering plates keeping them at working temperature.  It must be remembered to return the control knob down again after use, otherwise the cooker will overheat.

Gas-Turning Off The Burner

To extinguish the burner, turn the thermostat to the OFF position.

Oil-Lighting The Burner

1: Check that the burner is not hot, if it is wait until it is cool before relighting.

2: See that the fuel supply valves are turned on.

3: Press down the trip/reset lever on the oil control valve until it stops, then release it gently.

4: Turn the control knob to position 6 (fully anti-clockwise) and leave for 15 minutes for the Burner to prime.

5: After the 15 minute priming period has elapsed, lift the lighting flap on the outer shell of the burner, light the wick, which is just inside and below the flap, ensure that the wick is alight and close the lighting flap.

6: Immediately after lighting, turn the control knob to position 3.

7: About 15-30 minutes after lighting the burner should be hot enough to vapourise the oil and the control knob can then be turned to the normal operating position or to position 6 if quick heat is required. Where possible checks should be done to see that the burner is burning with a clean blue flame.

8: After 4 hours it is important to check that there is a blue flame on top of the burner and that the shells are glowing cherry red. There should be no yellow flames at all.

N.B. Sleeve burners operate more efficiently when burning reasonably hot. To turn the burner down for some time increases servicing frequency by causing carbon to accumulate, and will thus prove to be a false economy.

Oil-Turning Off The Burner

To extinguish the burner, lift the Trip/Reset lever until it clicks and rotate the control knob to the off position (fully clockwise). When leaving the burner off for long periods it is advisable to turn off the fuel supply at the oil storage tank.
